Bin Bahadur Gharti, a resident of Garchina Village, Ward No. 6, Nalgad Municipality, Jajarkot, is the eldest son in a family of six. After losing his father at a young age, his mother later got married again. As a result, Bin Bahadur had to become the backbone of the family, caring for his sister and two younger brothers. He left school early and began working as a laborer in India to support them.
Over time, he got married and became a father to a daughter and later a son. His wife stayed at home to care for the children and helped support the family by selling milk from their two cows. Despite their hard work, their income was barely enough to cover daily needs.
In 2021, Bin Bahadur built a modest house by taking out a loan. But on November 3, 2023 (17 Kartik 2080), a powerful earthquake struck at 11:47 PM, collapsing their home. Though the family survived, they lost all their belongings, food, clothing, and shelter. They spent several nights under the open sky until temporary relief materials, including tarpaulin, were provided. For more than a year, they continued living in a fragile temporary shelter, enduring harsh winters and difficult conditions.
The most painful tragedy came when their young son passed away, suffering from cold and illness. It was a heartbreaking loss for the entire family.
In the midst of this struggle, Asal Chhimekee Nepal (ACN) reached out to support Bin Bahadur’s family through its house reconstruction program. The assistance brought not just shelter, but renewed strength and hope.
“This is a precious gift,” Bin Bahadur said. “We are deeply grateful to Asal Chhimekee Nepal for standing by us in our most difficult time.”
Today, the Gharti family is taking steps toward recovery, with hope restored and a safer future ahead.
