On 31st March 2019, Bara and Parsa the southern districts of central Nepal suffered from massive rainstorm and winds. After the completion of initial relief program of distribution of basic utensils and cooking stove with gas cylinder, ACN initiates a project called Bara Parsa Windstorm Recovery Support Project to carry out the further recovery support activities to Bara Parsa windstorm affected families and communities.
It was found children and parents are still in under fear (trauma) after the windstorm incident. So it is planned to organize Trauma Healing Training to Teachers and Trauma Healing Orientation Program to Parents.
The main objective of the program is to deliver knowledge to teacher and parents on overcoming the trauma of the disaster which they will use to help their children to get over from the traumatic situation and apply safety method to protect themselves and others during the disaster period.
Trauma Healing Training for Teachers
Two days Trauma Healing Training was conducted among teachers of Suwarna Rural Municipality at Shree Rastriya Ma.Vi. Hardiya, 8 – Bara. 25 teachers participated in the training. Among them, 12 participants from Government school, 9 from private school and 4 from child -friendly space. Teaching materials (puppets, story books, crayons) also provided to teachers after the end of the training. Participants shared that training was helpful to them as they are also feeling better and learned how to help children those are under trauma to get over. In addition, they also learn how to be safe and help others to be safe from disasters.
Trauma Healing Orientation Program for Parents
Trauma healing orientation program conducted among parents in Suwarna Rural Municipality, Bara district. 318 parents of four communities participated in the orientation program. After the session, they shared that they are feeling better by sharing the horrible experience of the windstorm. In addition, they also learned methods to take care of their children to get over from the trauma of disasters. From the program, they also learned to be safe and help others to be safe from disaster.
The program was facilitated by the Early Child Education Center (ECEC), Lalitpur. The program was conducted with the local support of Protection Nepal ((a local NGOs) and in coordination with Suwarna Rural Municipality, Bara district.
