Informative poster distribution on Anti-Human Trafficking

Last week ACN organized an awareness program on anti-human trafficking through mobilizing children’s clubs under Combat Human Trafficking (CHT) program in seven various places of Kaski district. In the program, children distributed posters, provided information to the community on human trafficking and posted informative posters of human trafficking on their home and public places after taking approval from them. Each children’s clubs members participated in this community awareness program on anti-human trafficking. They enjoyed a lot by sharing their knowledge of human trafficking that they learned from the children’s clubs. 231 children from seven children club participated in this program.

CHT program is working on raising awareness on anti-human trafficking and child protection through the mobilization of children’s clubs. Currently, we have 7 children clubs in Kaski and 2 children clubs in Nawalparasi.

ACN’s 6th Social Audit Program

On 22 Nov 2019 Asal Chhimekee Nepal (ACN) organized 6th Social Audit programme with Mrs. Bina Silwal (chief guest), Chairman of NGO Federation, Gandaki Province in Hotel Task International, Pokhara. There was a significant number of participation of stakeholders including districts and local level government officials as well as beneficiaries from Kaski, Nawalparasi, Gorkha, Parbat, and Rautahat districts.

The program was anchored by ACN’s secretary Mr. Prakash Bhujel and social audit program was facilitated by Dr. Kamal Phuyal., He is a professor of University, Researcher and he has long time working experience of social development.  Facilitator; Dr. Kamal Phuyal presented ACN’s achievement, challenges and learnings from programme of fiscal year 2075-76 (2018-2019), as well as organization governance and finance in the program. To make program more effective in future, feedback from stakeholders also collected during the program. In addition, three women of Self-Help Group (ACN’s beneficiaries) of Kaski and Nawalparasi districts appreciated for being elected as a member in local government and three beneficiaries shared their experience of ACN’s work in their life and communities during the program.

Basic First Aid Training

Four day Basic First Aid training was conducted by Asal Chhimekee Nepal from 29th Sept to 2nd Oct 2019 in Pokhara. 11 female and 13 male from  Pokhara participated in the training. The training was facilitated by Nepal Red Cross. Participants learned first aid CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), first aid for bandage, burns, nosebleed, snake bite, dressing of wounds and cuts. They also learned to make stretcher at home to carry injured or sick people to hospital with stabilize their condition. Lastly, first aid boxes were also provided to the participants.

The main objective of the training was to deliver knowledge and skill so that in future they will be member of Task Force Team (A group of expertise to take action in disaster response) and will contribute in disaster preparedness and response. In addition, this training will help to build resilience of individual and communities in their daily lives.

 

Sara Gurung (Participant) said thatI used to think after first aid treatment we don’t need to visit hospital, but today I understood that first Aid is the first and immediate assistance given to any person suffering from any serious or minor illness or injury, to preserve life, prevent further harm and to promote recovery until any medical treatment is available’.

Motivational and Child Psychology Training for Teacher

To equip and encourage primary and secondary level teachers from eight Government schools of Gorkha, ACN conducted three day ‘Motivational and Child Psychology’ training at Shree Janakalyan Secondary School in Siranchowk, Gorkha from 22th  to 24th Sept 2019. The training was facilitated by Early Childhood Education Centre (ECEC). 28 teachers participated in the training. Training focused on understanding of child learning, teaching, curriculum, child development and class room management. Practical activities like physical game, songs, team building games, discussion and presentation were used which were appreciated by the participants. Participants learned positive guidance and classroom management and practical teaching methods. Lastly, they did SWOT analysis of their own and of the school.  After the training, teacher shared ‘we got new ideas to use locally available resources in our teaching. This training gives us knowledge with practical demonstration’. Teachers were so much excited to apply their learning in their teaching in classroom.

In addition to learning and motivating, interschool coordination and relationship were also developed. Participants expressed their gratitude to Asal Chhimekee Nepal (ACN) and Early Childhood Education Centre (ECEC) for the organizing and facilitating the training.

Disaster Risk Reduction and Search and Rescue training

While responding to Tarai flood 2019 in Bara, Parsa and Rautaht districts, ACN got to know that there were lack of basic knowledge and skills on disaster risk reduction while responding to disaster (flood, storm, fire etc.). Local volunteers and local representative expressed their interest in getting knowledge and skill on Disaster Risk Reduction as they were facing disaster every year. Therefore, ACN planned to provide training on Disaster Risk Reduction.

Two day basic training on Disaster Risk Reduction conducted in Parsa district from 8th-9th Aug 2019 for local volunteers of Parsa district. The Training was facilitated by Mr. Bal Krishna K.C (ACN). Twenty Seven participated in the training and training went well.

Two day orientation on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) conducted in Parsa districts. The training was facilitated by Nepal Red Cross 26th-27th Aug 2019. Twenty four local volunteers and local representative of Birgunj participated. Training focused on Disaster risk reduction, pre disaster and post disaster preparedness and climate change. In addition, practical session was also conducted on fire and flood.

Two day Search and Rescue training also conducted in Parsa district. The training was facilitated by Nepal Armed force from 9th -10th Sept 2019. Thirty one local volunteers & local representative from Bara and Parsa districts participated. Training focused on method to search and rescue people during disaster from collapsed infrastructure and disaster management cycle, disaster risk reduction (fire, storm, flood & earthquake).
