ACN’s COVID-19 Response update

COVID-19 outbreak has affected the lives of people around the world and Nepal is no exception. To contain the spread of COVID-19, Nepal government imposed a week-long nationwide lockdown on 24th March 2020 after identifying the 2nd positive case of COVID-19. Due to increasing cases of COVID-19, lockdown has been further extended. It has been a month of lock down and 57 cases of COVID-19 has identified in which 16 are recovered (Source: MoHP 30 April 2020).

This Coronavirus lockdown has adverse effect mainly on the poor, daily wage earners and other vulnerable people in Nepal. Due to sudden and continued lockdown, daily wage earners have no way to earn money for the living. Many temporary migrant workers who have run out of money, are forced to head to their hometown on foot. Many people are stuck on Nepal – India border. 

In this crisis of COVID-19 outbreak, the Social Initiative of Pokhara Christian Community, Asal Chhimekee Nepal (ACN) with the needy and vulnerable people and communities in order to sustain them in this crisis. On the 11th day of continuing lockdown, we have started to reach the doorsteps of people in need with relief package in coordination with the local governments. Our relief package consists of food supplies (rice, lentil, oil, salt, spices, etc. other food items and hand washing soap) that lasts for a month for a family of four.

We are able to provide the food relief packages to 607 household including 176 people with disability in Pokhara. We also contributed financially to the Pokhara Metropolitan COVID-19 Relief fund by handed a cheque of NPR 25,000. In addition, we also distributed informative pamphlets and posters of COVID-19. We came to know that 40,000 people are registered for the relief supplies in Pokhara only. We are trying to meet the need as much as we can. The distribution team has taken high safety measures during the delivery of the food materials to the communities, and also given counseling to the families. 

We would like to thank our funding partners for their generous support whose donation helping us to reach out to the people in their need in this crisis. We would thank our prayer partners & supporters, government authorities (Social Welfare Council (SWC), local government and communities for their supports and coordination.

ACN received Global NGO Leadership & Excellence Award

It is always great to receive recognition, especially at Global level for our work being recognized. We would like to share a moment of joy we the ACN received at the global level by World Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Congress and Awards for its contribution towards welfare of poor and marginalized and disaster survivors. 

 

On 18th Feb 2020, Asal Chhimekee Nepal (ACN), the social initiative of Pokhara Christian Community (PCC) was awarded as a Global NGO Leadership & Excellence by the World Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Congress and Awards. The program was held at Taj Lands Ends, Mumbai, India. The Award was handed over by Sheena Chohan, a film actress who also received the award for the impact of her work on social change. Mr. Hari Ram Ghimire (ACN Advisor and Chairman of PCC), Mr. Bharat Bhadur Gurung (ACN Chairman), Mr. Rajendra Kumar Adhikari (ACN Director) and Mr. Dinesh K.C. (ACN PME & Comms. Executive Officer) participated in the program and received the award. 

We would like to thank World CSR for recognizing ACN’s work and for providing such prestigious award.

We would like to share this award to our beneficiaries who graciously accepted us and our supporters, PCC, government agencies for their coordination and cooperation, funding partners, staffs who work tirelessly and always willing to go extra miles, prayer partners and many others who have been supporting us directly and indirectly.

17th ACN Day Celebration

On 17th Jan 2020, Asal Chhimekee Nepal celebrated its 17th years of service in Nepal with thanksgiving program. On this occasion, we would like to thank all our supporters and well-wishers who have been supporting us in many different ways.

Informative poster distribution on Anti-Human Trafficking

Last week ACN organized an awareness program on anti-human trafficking through mobilizing children’s clubs under Combat Human Trafficking (CHT) program in seven various places of Kaski district. In the program, children distributed posters, provided information to the community on human trafficking and posted informative posters of human trafficking on their home and public places after taking approval from them. Each children’s clubs members participated in this community awareness program on anti-human trafficking. They enjoyed a lot by sharing their knowledge of human trafficking that they learned from the children’s clubs. 231 children from seven children club participated in this program.

CHT program is working on raising awareness on anti-human trafficking and child protection through the mobilization of children’s clubs. Currently, we have 7 children clubs in Kaski and 2 children clubs in Nawalparasi.

ACN’s 6th Social Audit Program

On 22 Nov 2019 Asal Chhimekee Nepal (ACN) organized 6th Social Audit programme with Mrs. Bina Silwal (chief guest), Chairman of NGO Federation, Gandaki Province in Hotel Task International, Pokhara. There was a significant number of participation of stakeholders including districts and local level government officials as well as beneficiaries from Kaski, Nawalparasi, Gorkha, Parbat, and Rautahat districts.

The program was anchored by ACN’s secretary Mr. Prakash Bhujel and social audit program was facilitated by Dr. Kamal Phuyal., He is a professor of University, Researcher and he has long time working experience of social development.  Facilitator; Dr. Kamal Phuyal presented ACN’s achievement, challenges and learnings from programme of fiscal year 2075-76 (2018-2019), as well as organization governance and finance in the program. To make program more effective in future, feedback from stakeholders also collected during the program. In addition, three women of Self-Help Group (ACN’s beneficiaries) of Kaski and Nawalparasi districts appreciated for being elected as a member in local government and three beneficiaries shared their experience of ACN’s work in their life and communities during the program.
